A personal favorite and one of the best upcoming games of 2029, Wargroove has been in development for years and we’ve finally been graced with a release date. Following in the footsteps of the legendary Advance Wars on Gameboy Advance. With it’s amazing pixel art and proven mechanics, this game will be one for the history books. Metro Exodus

Platforms: PC/Windows | Playstation 4 | Xbox One
Release Date: RELEASED (February 15, 2019)
Buy Metro Exodus cheap on CDKeys

Metro Exodus looks to be an amazing continuum to Artyoms adventures. We can expect a fantastic story,  exciting stealth combat and plenty of horror, and best of all, a beautiful open world to explore. This time the development team put extra effort into making the guns look, sound and function like they would in real life, so realism ensues. There are factions to take over and wild animals to fight alongside grotesque monsters. When compared to the very dark underground demeanor of the previous games in the series, this one should be a refreshing change of pace. Metro Exodus has been confirmed to be released on February 15th, so it’s time to get hype!

Crackdown 3

Platforms: PC/Windows | Xbox One
Release Date: RELEASED (February 15, 2019)

The previous crackdown game was released in 2010 on Xbox, so it’s been quite a while. Most important addition to Crackdown 3 is that it will also be released on PC so everyone can enjoy Terry Cews’ shenanigans. Crackdown 3 maintains the core gameplay of the first two games while adding many new mechanics and features. The game features a number of organizations battling over the city that players need to destroy by annihilating their leaders and Kingpins, blowing up their facilities, and wrecking their structures. The destruction can be achieved via weapons from grenades to rocket launchers, alongside their very own fists.

In addition, all vehicles found in-game can now be driven by the players. The game has the original “Skills for Kills” system where killing enemies by different means and picking up loot in the city will reward the players with orbs. Those orbs can be used to increase core skills like agility, strength, firearms, driving or explosives. The game also includes a new system called “Gangs Bite Back”, in which a Kingpin’s attention can be drawn by destroying their locations. Gang members can retaliate , but if enough retaliations are countered, the bosses can come for the player personally. The game also has a competitive multiplayer mode in which the entire city will be destructible. Releasing on the same date as Metro Exodus, there won’t be a shortage of games to play in February.

Anthem

Buy Anthem cheap on CDKeys

Anthem is one of the most anticipated games of the year, and for good reason. In Anthem you can use your rocket-powered exosuit to speed across skies at extreme speeds or dive into the depths of an ocean if you choose to do so. You can customize your weapons and exosuits as you please, as well as find new ones on your adventures. BioWare confirmed there will be no loot boxes for the game, which leads us to believe there’s plenty of loot to collect through base gameplay. The game world is massive and constantly evolving, while roam around with up-to 4 people. It is only a matter of time to see if Anthem rises up to contest instant classics like Destiny. Anthem is released on 22nd of February, yet another exciting title for the beginning of 2019.

Trials Rising

Platforms: PC/Windows | Playstation 4 | Xbox One | Nintendo Switch
Release Date: RELEASED (February 26, 2019)

The ever-popular Trials series is finally getting a new addition to the family. Trials Fusion came out a whopping 5 years ago, so it’s about time we get something fresh. As with any trials game, we expect to core gameplay to be the same as it always has been, but with added improvements. New riding locations vary from the Eiffel Tower to Mount Everest, so we should be seeing a nice variety in scenery. The game will also have community driven customization so everyone can share their costumes and bikes. The most interesting new addition is a co-op multiplayer mode called ‘Tandem’. In tandem two players mount the bike, each controlling their half of it. If that’s not going to ensure some laughs, I don’t know what will. Trials Rising release date is coming up fast, so get ready!

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2

Platforms: PC/Windows | Playstation 4 | Xbox One
Release Date: RELEASED (March 15, 2019)
Buy Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 cheap on CDKeys

The long awaited sequel to the still popular Tom Clancy’s The Division. One of the newly added features in The Division 2 is that when the player reaches the end of the story mode, they can choose a specialization between Sniper, Demolitions, and Survivalist. These classes will aid players in playing as separate roles during online co-op action. Differing from the prequel, rifles will now be separated into a separate category, in order to give attention towards semi-automatic and burst-fire guns. Exotic weapons are also returning and will be more distinguishable than before.

Mods will be returning too, but the components have to be unlocked instead of scavenged from dead bodies. The developers are planning in to improve the usefulness of all mods in general. There will also be a lot less grenades equipped but there will be more to choose from. With a lot of new additions and balance fixes, let’s hope the game can bring enough improvements to the previous title. The Division 2 will be released on March 15th this year.

Gameplay:

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Platforms: PC/Windows | Playstation 4 | Xbox One
Release Date: RELEASED (March 22, 2019)
Buy Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice cheap on CDKeys

Finally an exciting new IP where you get to play as a vengeful ninja. The game is made by FromSoftware, the same studio behind the Dark Souls series, from which we can infer this one is going to be epic. Rather than slashing at an enemy to whittle its health down, the combat revolves around a katana to attack the enemies poise and balance, which will eventually lead to a one-hit-kill blow.

The game is also heavily focused on stealth gameplay, allowing players to swiftly annihilate enemies if they can get in range undetected. On top of that, the player can use various tools to make combat and exploration more intuitive, including a grappling hook or a torch. If the player dies, they can choose to be revived on the spot under certain conditions instead of returning to an earlier checkpoint. We can’t wait to get our hands on that shiny katana on March 22nd.

Platforms: Playstation 4

Days Gone has been in production for over 4 years and finally has a release date. Days Gone is a third-person zombie survival horror game in a post-apocalyptic world. Gameplay:

My Friend Pedro

Platforms: PC/Windows | Nintendo Switch
Release Date: Released (June 20, 2019)

My Friend Pedro is also one of my very favorites on this list after Wargroove.  This game is a sidescrolling, guns-blazing, bullet-time galore. The developer Devolver Digital, known for many amazing publications such as the Shadow Warrior series explains it the best: “My Friend Pedro is a violent ballet about friendship, imagination, and one man’s struggle to obliterate anyone in his path at the behest of a sentient banana. The strategic use of split aiming, slow motion, and the ol’ stylish window breach create one sensational action sequence after another in an explosive battle through the violent underworld.”

Gameplay:

Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Platforms: Nintendo Switch
Release Date: Released (July 26, 2019)

A whopping 15 games in the series later, we’ve arrived at Three Houses. With the gameplay we’ve learned to love from the dozen previous games, we’re finally treated to a fresh story and content. It is a traditional turn-based RPG that puts new twists on strategic battling. When the player maneuvers a unit, troops move with them to support them in battle. Differing from the previous games, the player can move the main character freely, interacting with other characters to gather info. Your protagonist meets three main characters – Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude – who play important roles in the story. Not much more information has been released for this title, but we will update it here once more info and a specific date are released.

Gameplay:

Biomutant

Platforms: PC/Windows | Playstation 4 | Xbox One
Release Date: Summer 2019

Biomutant is a third-person open world game where the player takes control of a raccoon-like creature in a world of mutated animals. The game features complex character customization including body shape, sex, fur, fangs, and many more, all of which impact the statistics of the character during gameplay. For example, a fat raccoon is slow but endures more damage. The combat system consists of melee attacks alongside long-range gun play.

The player can find new gun parts in the world to craft new weapons. Each part has statistics, all of which affect the final weapon. The weapons can be combined with elemental powers such as arcane or ice, which can be combined during combat by switching weapons. The game also contains complex progression and leveling mechanics, which allow the player to build a play style they enjoy. The release is till ways away so we’ll have to keep our eyes peeled for more details. Biomutant is expected to be released in the early Summer of this year.

Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order

Gameplay:

Doom Eternal

Platforms: PC/Windows | Playstation 4 | Xbox One | Nintendo Switch
Release Date: November 22, 2019

Once again Doomguy is let loose on a brand spanking new slaying adventure. The game continues to expand on the previous DOOM games emphasis on “push-forward” combat, encouraging aggressive gameplay and engaging enemies head on in order to get more health and ammo. The player has access to all the classic weapons alongside some new additions such as the “Crucible Blade” energy sword and a retractable arm-blade. The legendary execution animations are back, gorier and more brutal then ever. The Super Shotgun now has a giant with a meat hook, which not only allows the player to slingshot towards an enemy, but also doubles as as a grappling hook for faster environmental navigation.

Missiles, flamethrowers, and grenade launchers are now be attached to armor for advanced slaying. New movement mechanics such as wall-climbing and dash moves will also be added to the arsenal. The game will allegedly contain over twice as many different enemy types compared to its predecessor. The game will also have an asymmetric multiplayer mode called “Invasion”, in which players can join others’ single-player campaigns, fighting against them as demons. Gameplay:

Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord

Platforms: PC/Windows | Playstation 4 | Xbox One
Release Date: March 2020 (check our thoughts on it here)

Bannerlord, a seeming infinity project, is rumored to be released this year but we can only hold our breath and hope for the best. The game has supposedly been in development for over 8 years, which has spiked up huge controversy among fans.  Bannerlord will include around 8 major factions, each composed of competing clans with their own goals. There are also minor warband factions, including mercenaries and bandits. All the factions specialize in their own forms of warfare providing a lot of variety to gameplay. Graphically the game looks identical to its predecessors which might put off some newcomers, as they’re definitely up to par with 2019 standards. We can only hope Bannerlord 2 will be released this year and not put off by another year once again.

We will keep updating this list when new information pops up. There will be tons of new updates along the year so keep checking back here for more epic games and releases. Meanwhile check out our other gaming posts.
